October 9 -- Walkers Big Game Alumni Exhibition Opening

Liz Ensz, 2001 Arts High School alumni and arts major, will be back on October 9 in fine form! She will be back from Baltimore for the opening for her exhibition on October 9 from 6 to 8 PM, at the Perpich Center for Arts Education. She has developed a large body of work she describes as "a photographed happening and surprise installation". Liz will be giving an artists talk to students in the afternoon before the show. She is the first of our new format "Open Show" exhibiters.

Oh-one more news thing:
Sarah Wallis, student from St. Olaf in Northfield, Minnesota. She is working with students in the visual arts department during the first quarter. She brings strong studio skills, an excellent educational framework and intelligent critique skills to our students. St. Olaf and the Perpich Center High School visual arts department have had an excellent partnership over several years in the hosting of student teachers.

September 19, 11:20 AM -- Arts and Ideas with Syd Beane

Syd Beane, film producer-director and member of the Board of Directors for the Native American Public Telecommunications will speak about his journey as an artist. Students from MIGIZI, South High School, and Nawayee Center School will be joining AHS students for this class. Arts and Ideas uses simple questions (a.k.a. Visual Thinking Strategies) to encourage deep thinking and discussion about what people see in art. "What I am trying to propose in this class is that we aren't talking about aesthetics as philosophy, but as a way to perceive our world through the senses," says AHS faculty member, Tom Kanthak.
